FORT DODGE - Iowa Central Community College won its bid to host the NJCAA National Cross Country Meet beginning in November of 2013.
The meet will be held at Lakeside Golf Course at Kennedy Park on the north side of Fort Dodge. Over 600 men’s and women’s runners will compete at the event which will take place in mid November.
“This is going to be a great event for us and our community,” said Iowa Central Athletic Director Rick Sandquist. “The city of Fort Dodge loves to host events like this and really does a great job at it. It will be a great opportunity for our community.”
Teams and competitors will begin to arrive in Fort Dodge on Thursday for the championship meet which is held on Saturday. Iowa Central will host the event beginning in 2013 and host it again in 2015 and 2017. The decision was made at the NJCAA spring meetings last week.
The city of Fort Dodge can add another feather to its cap with the event. In addition to hosting the Iowa State High School softball and cross country championships, it also hosts the Region XI softball tournament and this year’s Region XI golf tournament. In the past, Fort Dodge has also hosted the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series.
“We are proud to be from Fort Dodge and this is a great opportunity to show off our community to people from all over the country,” said Sandquist.
