Inside Athletics
Iowa Central is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and competes at the Division I and Division II levels.
The Triton athletic programs have combined for 16 NJCAA National Championships (seven wrestling, three women’s cross country, two men’s half marathon, one women’s half marathon, one men’s indoor track and field, one women’s indoor track and field, one football, in addition to three consecutive National Alliance of Two Year College Administrators Association (NATYCAA) Cup Awards – given yearly to the top two-year athletic department in the nation.
Two of our former coaches, Paul Shupe in football and Dennis Friedrichs in wrestling, and one current coach, Dennis Pilcher in men’s basketball, are members of the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame.
Our athletic schedule will take you nationwide for competitions. The baseball program takes trips to Tennessee and South Carolina in the spring. The softball program travels to Florida for its spring trip in addition to a fall trip. The swimming program takes an annual winter training trip and competes in Florida. The cross country and track programs travel all over the nation to compete against the top programs in America. The football, wrestling, rodeo, soccer, volleyball, golf and basketball teams also travel throughout the Midwest to compete.
