Inside Athletics

Iowa Central is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and competes at the Division I and Division II levels.

The Triton athletic programs have combined for 22 NJCAA National Championships (seven wrestling, four women’s cross country, three men’s half marathon, two women’s half marathon, two men’s indoor track and field, two women’s indoor track and field, one women’s outdoor track and field, one football, in addition to five consecutive National Alliance of Two Year College Administrators Association (NATYCAA) Cup Awards – given yearly to the top two-year athletic department in the nation. In 2012-13, Iowa Central scored a record 181.5 out of a total of 200 possible points in the NATYCAA Cup.

Two of our former coaches, Paul Shupe in football and Dennis Friedrichs in wrestling, and one current coach, Dennis Pilcher in men’s basketball, are members of the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame.

Our athletic schedule will take you nationwide for competitions. The baseball program takes trips to Tennessee and South Carolina in the spring. The softball program travels to Florida for its spring trip in addition to a fall trip. The cross country and track programs travel all over the nation to compete against the top programs in America. The football, wrestling, rodeo, soccer, volleyball, golf and basketball teams also travel throughout the Midwest to compete.
