Amanda Murphy is entering her eleventh season as the Head Cheer Coach at Iowa Central Community College. Murphy started the competitive cheer program from the ground up and has built the cheer program at Iowa Central into one of the best small college cheer programs in the country. Murphy is the only female head coach in school history to win a National Championship at the tradition-rich athletic program at Iowa Central Community College.
Under Murphy’s guidance, the Tritons are one of the up and coming NCA cheer programs in the country. Since 2014, the Tritons have had four top four finishes at NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida in three different divisions with two 4th place finishes, a deduction free 3rd place team, and a National Runner Up team this past season. The last five consecutive triton cheer teams have made day two finals. The Tritons have had six teams finish in the top ten since 2013.
From 2007-2015, Murphy and the Tritons competed at Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In 2014, The Tritons won the school’s first cheer national championship in school history winning the large coed division. In 2015, Murphy led the Tritons to their second National Championship in school history and the first Small Coed National Championship in school history. Murphy’s team success at Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina includes four National Runner-Up squads (2015, 2013, 2009, 2007), two fourth place finishes (2012, 2010) and a fifth (2008) and sixth place finish (2011) respectively.
Under Coach Murphy’s guidance the Tritons have been very successful at regional competitions. In 2016, The Tritons won the Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Tritons have won six consecutive COA Mid America National Championships (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and in 2012 were Grand Champions. In 2013, Coach Murphy was named one of COA’s top coaches. In 2012, the Tritons were winners of the Rolling Prairie Challenge and Cheer Ltd. Nationals at CANAM International Level 6 Division. The Tritons won their first cheer competition in 2011 by winning the Valentines Classic. They were later crown Grand Champions at that competition.
Coach Murphy is certified by the AACCA, USASF, and IASF.
Under Murphy, the Tritons have hosted several successful camps, clinics, and competitions. The most successful competition would be Triton Challenge which has grown as one of the biggest and most respected competitions in the State of Iowa.
Murphy graduated from Iowa State University in 2005 with a degree in Business Management. She lives in Calendar with her husband Mitch, two dogs and their son Memphis.
