Tritons win 2

Tritons win 2

Iowa Central men's basketball improved to 6-1 overall after winning two games this past weekend at the Baymont Classic hosted by DMACC.  The Tritons defeated Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley on Friday afternoon by a score of 75-68.  Iowa Central turned around and beat County Upper Academy on Saturday afternoon by a score of 88-46.  "Friday's win was a good win for us.  Penn Valley is a scrappy team who pressed, played zone and did some things offensively we haven't seen this year.  So for us to come out of that game with a win was very good." Said Dennis Pilcher, head coach of Iowa Central.  Leading by a score of 41-38 at halftime, Iowa Central was able to keep Penn Valley at bay most of the second half.  With about 7 minutes to go, Aspen La Pointe's key 3 point field goal and Collin Shannon's hustle play at the free throw line were keys to building their biggest lead of 9 points.  "Aspen's 5 quick points in a key stretch and then Collin's play at the free throw line were real keys.  I thought we got a couple other hustle plays to get the win." Said Pilcher.

On Saturday, 15 guys who suited up all got to play in the victory against County Upper Academy.  Building a 30 point lead at half, Iowa Central was able to get other guys in the game and rest the starters.  "I thought we executed pretty well in the game.  Our starters got us off to a good start where we were able to get some playing experience for some other guys who haven't gotten to play as much this season so far.  We stuck to what we do and didn't get caught up in the score of the game." Said Pilcher.

Iowa Central improves to 6-1 on the year.  They will play on Tuesday, November 20th at 7:00pm against Southeastern in West Burlington, IA.  Southeastern is 5-1 overall this season.
