Tritons to compete in Tennis Association Regional Championships

Several members of the Iowa Central Tritons tennis teams will be back in action on the courts Friday-Sunday, participating in the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships and the Seminole State Tennis Classic at the Will Rogers Tennis Center in Oklahoma City. Qualifying to represent the Tritons in the ITA Championships will be:

Men's Singles
Manuel Roman (SO)
Chase Roseth (FR)
Colten Way (FR)

Men's Doubles
Way/Nicholas Fifield (SO)
Antony Lekoko (SO)/Ruu Pultz (FR)

Women's Singles
Dayana Ortega (FR)
Katheryne Campos (SO)

Women's Doubles

The singles and doubles champions in the men's and women's divisions advance onto the ITA Fall National Championships in Rome, Georgia the first week of November. Other NJCAA teams participating with the Tritons include: Seminole State, Seward Community College, Cowley Community College, Hesston College, and Barton Community College.

"This is a terrific opportunity for our student-athletes to play against some of the best NJCAA and small college programs in the nation. Seminole, Seward, and Cowley all have top 10 ranked men's and women's teams and Barton isn't far behind. To play some of the top tennis players in the country is a challenge our men and women are looking forward to. This is a real tough region so we will have to play our absolute best tennis of the fall and be prepared for long grind it out type matches. Our success will be determined by our ability to play smart and keep balls deep in the court over and over again. Our shot selection must be good; we have been talking all week about staying in the moment and focusing on "the now". Tennis matches ebb and flow a lot, there are momentum shifts big time. So we have to keep very focused and stay positive mentally," said head coach Todd Redenius.

The following players from Iowa Central will participate in the Seminole State Classic, which is being played alongside the ITA Regionals at the Will Rogers Tennis Center:

Men's Singles
Antony Lekoko (FR)
Ruu Pultz (FR)
Steven Mears (SO)
Nicholas Fifield (SO)
Jacob Martens (SO)
Zane Baker (SO)
Hector Bargallo (FR)

Men's Doubles

Women's Singles
Lily Timmerman (SO)

"The SSC will be terrific competition – again, much like the ITA Championships, it will come down to being patient, good shot selection and having the right mindset to compete in long grueling matches," said coach Redenius.
