Emporia, KS- The Triton Track & Field teams competed at the Emporia State Relays this weekend, with the Triton women taking 2nd place with 102 points while the men came in 3rd with 124 points. The Tritons combined for 9 event championships, 6 runners-up, and 12 new National Qualifiers on the day.
Nelda Huggins was a big winner for the women, as she finished first in both the 100M Dash (11.75) and the 200M Dash (24.21). The men also did well in the 100 and 200, with Bryant Brown taking home first place in the 100M (10.42), and Phemelo Matlhabe (21.11), Malik Beverly (21.36), and Brown (21.51) finishing 1, 2, 3, respectively, in the 200M dash. Both Agnes Mansaray (4:51.41) and Brian Bell (3:57.54) were runners up in the 1500M Runs; Marion Bartilol came in 2nd in the 5000M Run with a time of 17:49.56; Malik Beverly finished 1st in the 110M Hurdles (13.94); Marta Lukijaniuk finished 1st in the 3000M Steeplechase with a time of 11:31.01.
The Triton Relay teams had a lot of success this weekend, with the Men's 4 x 100 team finishing 1st (40.80), the Women's 4 x 800 team finishing 1st (10:11.62), and the Men's 4 x 800 'B' team finishing 2nd (8:04.46). Payton Roberts had a great weekend, winning the Shot Put with a throw of 14.21m, and Tyler Lienau finished 2nd in the Discus with a distance of 48.10m.
