Triton Track and Field competes at South Dakota State University

The Triton Track and Field team competed in the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic this weekend.  The Tritons had 10 new National Qualifiers as well as a new school record with Awet Yohannes' 1000 meter run with a time of 2:26.34, which is also the fastest time this season in the NJCAA. 

New National Qualifiers for the Tritons were Awet Yohannes (2nd – 2:26.32), Miguel Coca (19th – 2:34.52), and Mel Obadiah (23rd – 2:35.48) in the 1000 meter run; the Men's 4 x 800 Relay team of Anglin, Coca, Wilson, and Obadiah (2nd – 7:58.83); the Men's Distance Medley Relay team of Obadiah, Smith, Bryant, and Yohannes (2nd – 10:16.21); Za'quan Singleton in the Triple Jump (4th – 14.26m/46-09.5 ft); Lilian Busienei (4th – 3:03.90), Florance Uwajeneza (7th – 3:04.21), and Winrose Chesang (12th – 3:07.66) in the 1000 meter run; and the Women's Distance Medley team of Uwajeneza, Coley, Ford, and Busienei (2nd – 12:25.11). 

Other notable performances this meet included Lilian Busienei's 1000 meter performance (10th fastest school time, 4th fastest in the NJCAA); Florance Uwajeneza's 1000 meter performance (11th fastest school time) and her 1 mile performance with a time of 5:06.62 (4th fastest school record, 3rd fastest in the NJCAA); Lea Grady in the Weight Throw with a distance of 16.55m/54-03.75 ft (6th best school distance); the Women's Distance Medley Relay (9th best school record, 2nd fastest in NJCAA); Denzelle Anglin's 3rd place 600 meter run with a time of 1:20.75 (6th best school time); Awet Yohannes's new school record in the 1000 meter run was followed up with 7th place finish in the mile at a time of 4:10.64 (3rd best in school history, 2nd fastest in NJCAA); the men's 4 x 400 team's 1st place finish of 3:13.84 (4th best in school history, 3rd fastest in NJCAA); Za'Quan Singleton's Triple Jump (7th best in school history); Samuel Joseph's 4th place Triple Jump with a distance of 14.26m/46-09.5 ft (10th best in school history); and Milos Pendic's 3rd place 3000 meter run with a time of 8:27.89 (3rd fastest in the NJCAA).

The Tritons now move to post season action, as they look to defend their Regional Title this weekend at the Region XI meet in Storm Lake, Iowa at the Buena Vista campus.
