2017 NJCAA DI Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll – Week 4

2017 NJCAA DI Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll – Week 4

NEW ORLEANS – It's hard to believe that the 2017 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are just 10 days away, but here we are.

Before teams travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa to vie for national glory, they battled it out for regional titles and jockeyed for position in the most recent National Coaches' Polls that were released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

NATIONAL COACHES' POLL – All-Time Week By Week

For those who are new or need a refresher, the NJCAA Division I Cross Country National Coaches' Polls are voted on by 10 coaches from around the nation. Points are assigned to each spot in the poll and the team with the most points is No. 1, followed by the second most and so on and so forth.

Men's Story

Nothing changed up top as Iowa Central headlines the poll and is followed by Central ArizonaSouth Plains (Texas) and Paradise Valley (Ariz.). The Tritons, who have been No. 1 in 14 of the 15 weeks that the USTFCCCA has done the National Coaches' Poll, own eight of the 10 first-place votes, while the Vaqueros brought home the other two.

Vincennes (Ind.) moved up four spots from No. 9 into a tie for fifth with Louisburg (N.C.).

Two other big jumps highlighted the men's poll as both Southern Idaho and Macomb (Mich.) vaulted eight or more spots into the top-15. The former went from No. 17 to No. 9 and broke into the top-10 for the first time in program history. The latter soared 10 spots from No. 22 to No. 12 and nabbed its best ranking in program history.

Women's Story

Iowa Central continues its dominance atop the women's index as it is No. 1 for the 12th time in 15 tries. The Tritons are the unanimous favorites as they own all 10 first-place votes.

Central Arizona jumped two spots from No. 4 to No. 2, a spot it has never occupied. The Vaqueras had been No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 before, but never No. 2.

There was a bunch of shuffling elsewhere in the top-10 as Vincennes (Ind.) went from No. 8 to No. 5, Southern Idaho went from No. 7 to No. 6 and South Plains (Texas) joined the top-10 as it went from No. 11 to No. 10.

The biggest jump in the women's index belonged to New Mexico JC. The Thunderbirds were ranked No. 18 in Week 3 and vaulted to No. 11 this week.
