Upon taking over the Iowa Central women's basketball program, Brian Ortmeier made it his mission to recruit the top Iowa high school players in the state to join his team.
With the signing of both Jayden Frank and Kayla Griffith, Ortmeier has done just that.
Frank, at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, and Griffith, at Vinton-Shellsburg, are currently in the midst of their senior seasons with their respective teams. They will join the Tritons in the fall for the 2021-22 year.
"We are very excited to have Jayden and Kayla joining our women's basketball program as part of our 2021-22 recruiting class," Ortmeier said. "They both have high character, great work ethic and are very talented all-around student-athletes."
Frank, a 5-foot-9 guard, has scored a team-leading 108 points through eight games. She is shooting over 42 percent from the field and 35 percent from the 3-point line, where she has made 15 triples in all.
Along with being a standout scorer, Frank also has 38 rebounds, 19 assists, 11 steals and six blocked shots for the Cardinals.
"When I visited campus and met the coaches, I really felt like I belonged (at Iowa Central)," Frank said. "The school seems very focused on their athletes and having successful students; those are both very important to me.
"I am super excited for next year and becoming a Triton."
Coming into the season, Frank had scored 726 points with 386 rebounds, 132 assists, 115 steals and 50 blocks. She also made 83 three-pointers during that three-year stretch.
Griffith, a 5-foot-10 guard, has posted 74 points with 36 rebounds, 17 assists, 16 steals and two blocks in nine games. She has also been effective getting to the free throw line with 45 attempts on the year.
"I chose Iowa Central because the coaches were very involved with me," Griffith said. "They texted me often and really felt like they wanted to get to know me and wanted me to play for them. I haven't met the team yet, but they told me they are a close team.
"I am super excited to join the team and get to know the other girls."
During her first three seasons with the Vikettes, Griffith scored 310 points with 139 rebounds, 60 assists, 68 steals and eight blocks.
