Burns, Peterson named to hall of fame

This coming fall, a pair of former Iowa Central standouts will be inducted into the Grand View Athletics Hall of Fame.

EJ Peterson and Matt Burns are among the group set to be enshrined on Saturday, September 25 at the Athletic Awards Dinner during Homecoming weekend.

Peterson, a 2011 graduate of Grand View, was a two-year football player for the Tritons. He went on to play for the Vikings in 2009 and '10, earning first team all-conference honors twice.

Peterson was also named the 2010 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and made the All-American first team. He went on to play professionally for the Iowa Barnstormers and is currently the defensive coordinator at Grand View.

Burns was a member of the Iowa Central wrestling team before becoming the first national champion in school history in 2009 at 149 pounds. After taking a medical redshirt the following season, he was the 2011 Central Region champion and earned his second national title.

During both the 2009 and '11 seasons, Burns was named Grand View Wrestling's Outstanding Wrestler. He currently works for Webster County as a Deputy Sheriff.

Others to be inducted include Steven Hughes and Andrea Schaben, with Suzette (Stephens) Jensen being honored as the Robert L. Mahaffey Community Service Award winner.
