The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2018 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday. Representing Iowa Central Tennis as ITA Scholar-Athletes are Nicolas Almeida, Jacob Martens, and Lily Timmerman.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Martens (First Team) and Timmerman (Third Team) also received NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards, and Women's Tennis earned the NJCAA Academic All-American Team award this spring.
The achievements in the classroom combined with strong performance on the tennis courts, where Women's Tennis (12-6) finished #17 at the NJCAA DI National Championships in Waco, TX and Men's Tennis (20-6) followed that up with a #13 finish at their national tournament in Plano, TX.
