Fresh off setting a new school record, Victoria Adu has been honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Iowa Central freshman was named the NJCAA Div. I Women's Athlete of the Week.
A native of Berlin, Germany, Adu broke the school record in the hammer throw during the University of South Dakota Early Bird. She had a best of 195-11 to finish second overall in the event.
During the meet, Adu also had throws of 194-3 and 193-8, saving her best for last. Her mark ranks third all-time in NJCAA history.
This is the first time that Adu has been named National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season. A female athlete from Iowa Central has been honored in five of the past six years that the award has been given.
Earlier this spring, Adu won an indoor national title in the weight throw.
Next action for the Tritons and Adu will be this Friday and Saturday at the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion, South Dakota.
