Triton Volleyball headed to Wahpeton, North Dakota this weekend for a tournament hosted by North Dakota State College of Science. The Tritons were paired up with undefeated Bismarck State, Lake Region State College, Williston State, and undefeated Jamestown University JV.
The Tritons started off with Bismarck State. Both teams came out firing on all cylinders in a back and forth battle in set 1. The Tritons would edge out the Mystics, winning set 1 25-22. That momentum carried over to the second and third sets, as the Tritons would win in straight sets, winning sets 2 and 3 25-17, 25-17. Gabby Sullivan and Lexi Green led the offense with 14 kills (.270 efficiency) and 8 kills (.412 efficiency), respectively. Abby Lohrmann dished out 34 assists, Kayla Faldet led the blockers with 3 blocks, and Abby Lohrmann (21 digs), Michele O'Haver (15 digs), and Hannah Murray (13 digs) led the defensive effort.
The second match on Friday paired the Tritons up with Lake Region State College. Iowa Central played 14 different players throughout the match, with all players contributing in the 25-11, 25-17, 25-18 win. Libby Zorn (5 kills, .190 eff) and Gabby Sullivan (4 kills, .800 eff) led the Triton offense, Abby Lohrmann had 20 assists, Libby Zorn (7 blocks) and Lexi Green (6 blocks) were the Triton leaders at the net, while Michele O'Haver and Kryssie Okinaka had 12 digs and 7 digs, respectively.
The first match on Saturday would be a marathon match for the Tritons. The match clocked in at 2 hours and 31 minutes, and Iowa Central would need all five sets to come away with a victory over Williston State, winning 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-10. Defense was the biggest star of the match, with long rallies and exciting saves the norms throughout. Michele O'Haver had a record-breaking performance with 43 digs, while four other Tritons would join her in double digits (Abby Lohrmann 22, Emily Nelson 19, Kryssie Okinaka 12, Liza Hatcher 18). The Tritons struggled offensively, hitting only .070 for the match, as Williston State's libero racked up the digs, forcing Iowa Central to swing out of their comfort zone. Gabby Sullivan ended with 15 kills while Kayla Faldet chipped in 12. Abby Lohrmann had 36 assists, Liza Hatcher 3 aces, and Kayla Faldet 6 blocks.
The Tritons had a quick turnaround for their 4th match of the weekend, where they would face another undefeated team in Jamestown University JV. Jamestown JV would present the Tritons with the tallest and fastest offense they've faced this season. The Jimmies came out of the gate running, making quick work of set 1 25-15. The Tritons would begin to make adjustments in set 2, but fell behind 25-17. The 3rd set was the best set of the match, with Iowa Central winning 25-22, but not before Jamestown came roaring back, taking the 4th set 25-15. Hannah Murray was the lone spark for the Tritons, with one of her best performances notching 7 kills on a .316 hitting efficiency, adding 2 blocks and 6 digs. Webster City graduate Olivia Myers saw her first extensive varsity action of the season, contributing a team leading 4 blocks as well as 3 kills. Abby Lohrman had 23 assists while Michele O'Haver had 15 digs.
The Tritons return to action this week with a match at Marshalltown CC on Wednesday and a home triangular Friday with matches vs Highland (KS) at 3pm and Grand View JV at 6:30pm.
