Tritons move to 13-1 with win over Marshalltown

The Tritons headed down to Marshalltown Community College for a Wednesday evening match.  Both teams have had a great start to the year, with Marshalltown winning their first 7 matches and entering the game at 8-4.

Both teams got off to a shaky start, handing each other points off of unforced errors.  The Tritons would hit just .088 for the first set but managed to find a way to win, 25-22.  The second match was a little cleaner, but Marshalltown aggressively attacked the Triton block, finding ways to hit through the Tritons' hands for kills.  The Tigers would win set 2 19-25.

The Tritons got a much-needed momentum break, as both teams headed to the locker room for a mid-game intermission.  The offense would finally start to come alive, as the Tritons hit .370 for the third set.  Marshalltown got off to a quick lead in set 3, pulling ahead 18-11.  Liza Hatcher provided a huge spark, reeling off 7 straight points, tying the match at 18.  The Triton blockers stepped up their game towards the end of set 3, slowing down a tenacious Marshalltown attack.  Tritons won a tight set 3, 27-25.

All the momentum went with the Tritons for set 4, as they quickly pulled out in the lead right from the start.  Abby Lohrmann served all of her 6 aces in the final set, and Marshalltown could not find an answer.  Tritons won set 4 25-7.

Gabby Sullivan had a great night at the net, registering 17 kills on 36 swings (.417 efficiency) and 2 blocks.  Hannah Murray followed up her impressive showing vs Jamestown with another great performance adding 7 kills on .412 efficiency, 1 ace, 10 digs, and 3 blocks.  Abby Lohrmann had 29 assists and 6 aces, Liza Hatcher chipped in 3 aces and 7 digs, while Michele O'Haver's 25 digs and Kayla Faldet's 4 blocks led the defense.  The Tritons are now 13-1 on the season.
