FORT DODGE – The No. 10 Iowa Central women’s basketball team beat No. 3 Kirkwood Saturday 80-74. Iowa Central used the energy from a packed Jam the Gym crowd that was decked out in bright colors for the school’s first ever “Neon Game.”
Miliakere Koyamainavure led Iowa Central with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Lydia Harvey added 17 points and Katie Dentlinger added 12. The Tritons also had reserve Chayil Henderson come into the game and score 11 points. It was Iowa Central’s second straight game against a team ranked in the top-three of the NJCAA poll. Iowa Central fell to No. 2 NIACC 94-87 on Saturday, Jan. 25.
“It was a real gut check for the girls after losing to NIACC. I am happy that we were able to bounce back against quality opposition,” said head coach Craig Carlson.
Coach Carlson also had a special mention for the play of Chayil Henderson and also the crowd that provided an excellent atmosphere.
“I was really happy with the lift that Chayil gave us. It was big to get that extra boost off the bench,” said Carlson. “The crowd was also excellent, I’m happy we were able to win in front of the Jam the Gym crowd.”
Iowa Central is back in action when it travels to Marshalltown to take on the Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
