Guy Horn Named Next Athletic Director for Iowa Central
With the retirement announcement of long-time Triton Football Coach and current Athletic Director, Kevin Twait, Iowa Central has named current Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Director, Guy Horn, to be his replacement beginning July 1, 2025.
"When Coach Twait communicated with us his desire to retire, we knew it was going to be big shoes to fill. We were looking for an individual who had the vision, skills, and passion to move our institution forward in the athletic department." said Iowa Central President, Dr. Jesse Ulrich. "We wanted them to focus not only on athletic success, but students being successful in the classroom and completing their degree or certification in the shortest amount of time possible, with the least amount of student loan debt, so they could go on and have a better life. Throughout this selection process, Guy Horn was very articulate in his vision on how to meet those goals."
"I'm excited for our student athletes and our coaches who work with these athletes on a day-to-day basis." added Ulrich. "I have full confidence that Guy Horn will move our athletic department into the future and will bring success. He truly embodies the Triton culture we desire."
Horn has been with Iowa Central since 2015 as the Head Athletic Trainer before adding the Associate Athletic Director position in 2021. Along with Iowa Central, Horn has held athletic training positions at Morningside College, Alegent Health-Papillion La-Vista South High School (NE), and Wayne State College (NE). Horn holds degrees from Midland Lutheran College (BA, Fitness and Sports Management) and Wayne State College (MSE, Sports Management). Horn is married to wife, Sara (Westling), and they have three children, Hunter, Eden, and Emerie. Sara has been the Triton Volleyball Head Coach since 2015, as well as the 2009-2010 seasons.
"This is an exciting opportunity for me as Iowa Central has been part of my family for the last 12 years. I have worked with all of our coaches and athletes and feel this will be a very smooth transition." said Horn. "I am excited for the opportunity to help build on the success that we have had as an athletic department."
Leaving Iowa Central after 29 years is an emotion filled decision for Twait, but he's confident that Horn will continue leading the way. "Guy has done an outstanding job in his role as Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Director. He is more than ready for this opportunity. He understands that the role of a collegiate Athletic Director is to work behind the scenes to enhance the experience of the student-athletes. He will do an outstanding job leading our Triton athletic program." said Twait. "I knew about a year ago that I would take advantage of the retirement package that the college was going to offer and Guy has been working with me in every facet of the Athletic Director position ever since. He is a tremendous person, a tireless worker, and genuinely cares about coaches and student-athletes."
"Kevin Twait has been a great mentor. He has been there to support me on this journey for the last three years as the Associate Athletic Director." said Horn on working with Coach Twait and making this a smooth transition. "He has provided me with some incredible learning opportunities and great leadership. Kevin bleeds navy and white and he will be missed by everyone. I hope to step in and be the Tritons' biggest fan as he was."
Horn is thankful for what lies ahead for himself and the 30+ athletic programs at Iowa Central. "I want to thank Iowa Central's administration for giving me the opportunity and trust to help lead the Tritons into the future." said Horn. "We have an incredible athletics staff and I will be there to support them and our student athletes. We will continue to provide an exceptional student experience that is second to none! Go Tritons!"
