Pederson, McCormack Earn ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors
Spencer Pederson – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Third Base
Iowa Central pulled off a 9th inning comeback in the Region 11 Championship, knocking off No. 3 Southeastern, and sophomore Spencer Pederson delivered in the biggest moment. For the tournament, over four games, Pederson went 6-for-15 (.400) at the plate, driving in four runs with eight RBI, including a home run. His defining moment came in the final inning of the championship game — a dramatic 9-8 walk-off win — where Pederson smashed a one-two count for a single, driving in the game-tying and game-winning runs in walk-off fashion.
Chris McCormack – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Relief Pitcher
Typically a starter, Iowa Central's Chris McCormack stepped up in a relief role during last week's Region 11 Tournament, helping secure two critical wins. In the semifinal against Northeast, McCormack came in to close out a 9-7 victory, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out three. He came up clutch again in the final inning of the Region 11 Championship against No. 3 Southeastern, pitching a flawless 10th inning to keep the game tied and set up the walk-off win. McCormack picked up the win in two of the Tritons four games.
