Tritons Advance in World Series with 9-1 Victory Over Lackawanna

After falling to top-seed Pasco-Hernando on Monday, the Triton bats came to life again on Tuesday (5/26) night as they fought off elimination with a 9-1 victory over #12-seed Lackawanna at the NJCAA DII World Series.

Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Tritons put five on the board in the second to break the game open. That was more than enough for starting pitcher, Chris McCormack, who gave up just four hits and shut the Falcons out the rest of the way.

"We had good production throughout the lineup today," said Triton Head Coach, Eric Stein. "Cade created some chaos on the bases and Chris did a good job on the mound. Gave us a bunch of zeros."

Chayton Fischer paced the Triton offense, going 2-2 with a homerun, triple, two walks, and two RBI. Cade Sears was 3-3 with and RBI and a stolen base. Cooper Nicholson (2), Jake Busson (2), Sawyer Stein, and Spencer Pederson all added RBI.

"I just had to get the ball on the ground," said Sears on his night. "That's all I had to do. Then it was all about using my speed on the bases."

McCormack (11-0), who was recently named ICCAC Conference Pitcher of the Year, struck out five and threw just 79 pitches (53 strikes) in his complete game four-hit gem on the mound. The win was his 11th of the season.

"I got off to a bit of a rough start," said McCormack. "Our offense got me going. Five runs of support in the second inning put some wind in the sails and that allowed me to be a lot more confident in the following innings."

The Tritons will now face #4-seed Heartland in an elimination game on Tuesday (5/27) afternoon at 1:00 PM.
