Tough road setback for Iowa Central in Week 1

The 14th-ranked Iowa Central football team was unable to get on track at No. 10 Butler this weekend, falling 42-10.

Christian Ford, a freshman, had the lone touchdown, returning a kickoff back 97 yards in the third quarter. 

Demarcus Irons passed for 110 yards to lead the offense, with Georgia Southern transfer Grant Walker gaining 34 yards on seven carries. The Tritons were held to 104 yards on the ground and 131 through the air with Arthur Brantley also seeing time at quarterback.

Jatoviay Hill ran for 24 yards, Irons added 18 and Michigan transfer Kurt Taylor had 17 yards on the ground. Brantley finished with 11. 

Tanarious Achan led the receivers with eight receptions for 50 yards, as Rashad Witty added 23 yards on two catches and Jyvon Brown had 24 on one. Terrell Carey, Walker, Marrio Wright and Jason Young each had one reception. 

Witty had 105 yards on two kickoss returns, finishing his day with a team-high 128 all-purpose yards. 

Colin Swygman kicked through a 33-yard field goal and added an extra-point, with Jacob Tokheim averaging 33.4 yards per punt. 

On defense, Eugene Brown had a team-high nine tackles, with Torre Boland recording six stops including a sack. Brandt Casey also had six tackles. 

Iowa Central plays host to No. 2 Iowa Western Saturday, August 31 inside Dodger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. The Reivers posted a 36-14 victory over Coffeyville in their opener.
