Kinney Cup on the line between Tritons, Reivers

The Kinney Cup will be up for grabs Saturday inside Dodger Stadium when No. 14 Iowa Central welcomes second-ranked Iowa Western for an ICCAC showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Both teams opened the 2019 season last week, with the Tritons falling on the road to No. 10 Butler, while the Reivers scored a home victory over Coffeyville.

Iowa Central nearly pulled the upset last year in Council Bluffs, rallying before coming up short, 26-20. It marked the second time in three years that the contest was decided by one possession.

Demarcus Irons threw for 110 yards and completed 14 of 27 last week for the Tritons at Butler, with Georgia Southern transfer Grant Walker rushing for 34 yards. Iowa Western was led by Brian Snead, as the Ohio State transfer racked up 105 yards and a touchdown, with quarterback Cam Thomas accounting for 197 yards passing, 30 yards rushing and a score.

The Iowa Central defense was anchored by Eugene Brown and Torre Boland. Brown had nine tackles and Boland recorded six, including two for loss.

Weather calls for a 40 percent chance of rain and highs in the mid-60s with slight winds.

The teams will play for the Kinney Cup, a trophy created to honor both Iowa Central president Dr. Dan Kinney and his father, Iowa Western president Dr. Dan Kinney.
