The Iowa Central football team welcomes rival Iowa Western to Dodger Stadium on Sunday for another Top-10 matchup between ICCAC programs.
While the Reivers got the better of the Tritons in the spring, it was not that long ago that Jesse Montalto and Iowa Central were celebrating the home turf following a 28-26 victory in 2019.
The Triton defense stopped a two-point conversion attempt by Cam Thomas with under three minutes to play, securing the win that afternoon.
DJ Irons, who led Akron into Ohio State this week, put together a seven-play, 60-yard drive that resulted in a 22-yard touchdown pass to Terrell Carey for the winning score. Irons threw for 151 yards and ran for another 46 with two touchdowns.
"They brought it to us, but we brought more," Irons said. "It was a tough, physical game. They are a good team, but we are better and we proved that."
Kurt Taylor ran for 82 yards and Tanarious Achan had five receptions for 74.
Iowa Western was led by ZaQuandre White, who ran for 245 yards on 20 carries. White is currently at South Carolina, while Brian Snead, an Austin Peay running back, scored twice.
Colin Swygman made a pair of field goals and was 2-for-2 on extra-points. The Tritons had nine tackles for loss and picked off two passes in the win, which allowed Iowa Central to claim the conference title.
Rashad Witty recovered an onside kick attempt to end any hopes for the Reivers, who came into the contest ranked second in the nation.
Kickoff on Sunday is set for noon.
