Eight Tritons earn All-American status

Eight Iowa Central football players were named to the NJCAA All-America team, including first team selections Byron Jarrett and Maximus McCree.

Joining Jarrett and McCree were second team picks Reggie Young, Tristin Waugh and Major Williams. Daylen Boddie, Desna Washington and CJ Christian were honorable mention selections.

The Tritons went 9-2 this past season, earning a 35-27 victory over Monroe College in The Graphic Edge Bowl.

Jarrett, who recently committed to the University of Texas Permian-Basin, ranked among the leaders in several passing categories this past fall. He threw for 2,704 yards with 30 touchdowns, adding 575 yards and 13 scores on the ground.

Along with the first team All-America honor, Jarrett was also tabbed the ICCAC Offensive Player of the Year.

"To me, this is just a perfect way to cap my Iowa Central career," Jarrett said. "I have put so much into my craft and I feel this accomplishment is a reflection of that. This honor is so rewarding because I have finally come to the realization of how much I effected the NJCAA by being named the top quarterback in junior college."

McCree also landed on the first team as an offensive lineman after making the second team in the spring. He committed to the University of Maryland.

Young was a starter along the offensive line with McCree.

Williams was a repeat second team selection, with Waugh moving up from honorable mention in the spring. On the year, Williams had 52 tackles with two interceptions, while Waugh recorded 44 trackles and six sacks.

Boddie ran for a team-leading 717 yards, scoring five touchdowns with 27 receptions for 227 yards and three scores. Washington hauled in 37 passes and led Iowa Central with 777 receiving yards and 10 TDs.

Christian had 54 tackles, five tackles for loss and three interceptions.
