Three Tritons Receive ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors
Jacob Kania – Iowa Central – Sophomore – WR
Iowa Central wide receiver Jacob Kania delivered a breakout performance in a win over Highland. Kania hauled in six catches for 106 yards and three touchdowns, including a 44-yard strike that stretched the lead to two scores in the second quarter. He also contributed on special teams, punting for 108 total yards and pinning one inside the 20. Kania and the Tritons will face their biggest test yet at home against No. 1 Hutchinson on Sept. 20.
Ethan Johnson – Iowa Central – Freshman – Return Specialist
Freshman return man Ethan Johnson gave Iowa Central an early spark in their win over Highland last Saturday. With the game tied in the first quarter, Johnson returned a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown, seizing momentum for the Tritons. Iowa Central never relinquished the lead from that point, cruising to a 63-27 victory. Johnson and the Tritons will take on top-ranked Hutchinson at home on Sept. 20.
Syeda Laiba Shah – Iowa Central – Freshman
Iowa Central women's golf had two first place finishers last week – one of them being Laiba Shah. The freshman posted a +4 76 at the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff on the team's home course Fort Dodge Country Club. Shah posted a -1 under the back nine, tallying two of her three birdies on the day. In total she recorded three birdies, eight pars, five bogies and a double. Shah also posted an 81 at the NIACC Fall Invite the next day – earning a sixth-place finish.
