Their time as Iowa Central Tritons is drawing closer to a conclusion but sophomores Joe Forsting (Edgerton,Wis.) and Nicholas Tennis (Missouri Valley) signed their letters of intent Wednesday afternoon to continue their college golfing careers.
Forsting committed to Winona State in December and Tennis announced his commitment to Viterbo University Wednesday.
"This is what it's all about," said coach Kris Graewin. "Helping athletes get to the places they want to go after their time here at Iowa Central. I've been lucky enough to coach both of these young men for the last two years and I couldn't be happier for them both."
Forsting has been a fixture in the Triton lineup since arriving on campus in 2019. As a freshman, Forsting boasted a scoring average of 76, including two rounds of 73. During the 2020 fall season finished tied for third at the Iowa Lakes Triangular with a score of 75 and his current scoring average heading into the spring is 76.8.
"Joe was my first commitment when I took over here at Iowa Central so we will always have a special connection," Graewin said. "Joe's a hardworking young man that has a grown a ton since he's gotten here. He's been a great teammate for everyone in the program and I'm extremely proud of how he's handled his time here. He accepted the challenge of coming into a program that had a subpar year in 2018 and wanted to turn it into a regional and national contender and we've done that."
After appearing in three tournaments as a freshman, Tennis played in two events during the fall firing an 83 at the Iowa Central Fall Invite and a career-low 80 at the DMACC Invitational. While Tennis hasn't gotten into the varsity lineup many times, Graewin believes his best golf on the horizon.
"Nick has been a workout warrior for us since he's been on campus," Graewin said. "When Nick arrived, he was a former four-sport athlete but needed to refine his skills and he has taken every coaching advice and ran with it. I really think Nick is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. He's headed to a program that will continue to help him develop and I fully expect him to be in their varsity lineup from the start."
While their futures are now set, the Tritons have their sights set on a different goal.
"I'm pretty sure if you ask both of these guys they will tell you that they are ready to compete for a Regional title," Graewin said. "Having their next school decided lifts a lot of weight off their shoulders and now they can go have fun this semester. When I first started recruiting their recruiting class we talked a lot about elevating the program to a contender and these two have helped set an example for years to come and I couldn't be happier and more proud of them."
