Joe Forsting's dream has been to compete at the Div. I level as a golfer.
Following a standout career with Iowa Central, Forsting made that dream a reality, signing with the University of Wisconsin Green Bay recently.
This past spring, Forsting helped the Tritons record a program-best fourth place finish at the NJCAA Div. II Championship. As an individual, the Edgerton, Wisconsin native was 15th overall, which also marked the highest finish for an individual at nationals.
"I am really excited," Forsting said. "Since I started coming up in high school, and even still when I got to Iowa Central, that was the goal that hovered over me. I thought I had missed out on that when I had some less than perfect play at Iowa Central, but I was lucky enough to still receive this opportunity in the end.
"I don't really know where this will take me in the end, or how long I will even play there, but I'm excited to get to work and find out how I can contribute to the program this fall."
Forsting had previously committed to Winona State to golf, but the opportunity to join a Div. I program in his home state was just what he was looking for.
"I was very happy to be going to Winona State, but in the end of the spring, I had heard that Green Bay was looking to fill a spot for the fall and that I had happened to be on their list until they saw I was committed to Winona. Because of that, they never contacted me since they didn't want to try to recruit a player already committed to go somewhere else.
"Since it interested me, however, I decided to reach out to them and sure enough they still had interest. I went for a campus visit, learned more about the opportunity and realized that going to Green Bay was the best choice for me financially as well as for growing as a player."
