Pruisner: Iowa Central 'Took A Chance On Me'

A well-decorated athlete coming out of high school, Lane Pruisner knew he wanted to play rugby.

But Pruisner needed a home to show his skills.

That is where Iowa Central and head coach Brent Nelson stepped in.

The two have formed quite a strong bond since, as Pruisner has helped the Tritons maintain their recognition on the national level while elevating himself at the same time.

Pruisner and Iowa Central are set to begin the fall season this Saturday with matches in Grand Rapids, Michigan against Davenport University.

"I chose Iowa Central because I knew I wanted to play rugby in college, but I didn't have a lot of film or experience," Pruisner said. "So Iowa Central was the only college to take a chance on me."

Last year, Pruisner was named to the USA Rugby Men's Under-20 All-America team. He was one of just 20 players from the United States to make the list of 33.

At Ankeny Centennial High School, Pruisner was an all-state lineman on the football field and wrestled for the Jaguars, qualifying for the state wrestling championships. He was also a four-year rugby player and three-time captain, earning all-state honors on the pitch.

Pruisner will head to Arkansas State in the fall, re-joining former Triton assistant and new head coach of the Red Wolves, Jake Mizell.

The Tritons claimed the D1AA national championship in 2019.
