The Iowa Central Track and Field team opened up the 2018 Indoor season with 5 event titles, 11 National Qualifiers for the Men, 11 National Qualifiers for the Women, and a record breaking performance in the women's 3000 meter run at the Hawkeye Invitational on Saturday in Iowa City.
The meet was highlighted with an impressive indoor debut by Adva Cohen, a freshman from Jerusalem. Cohen, who won both the NJCAA Cross Country Championship and Half Marathon races this fall, ran the 3000 meter run in a record breaking time of 9:29.04, beating the 2nd place finisher by nearly 20 seconds. Cohen's time was a new Iowa Central school record, a new NJCAA record, and a new Israeli National Record.
Other event winners included Nelda Huggins in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.50, Agnes Mansaray in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:35.05, Chris Wignall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.19, and Chris Thompson in the Triple Jump with a distance of 14.2m (46-07.25 ft).
