Burkholder named ICCAC coach of the year

Iowa Central's Jordan Burkholder has been named the 2021 ICCAC Indoor Track and Field Men's Coach of the Year.

The league announced the award along with handing out all-region honors on Thursday.

Burkholder led the Tritons to a 16th consecutive regional title, scoring 185 points with nine event champions and two events where Iowa Central athletes placed first, second and third.

"This is a great recognition for Jordan on top of a successful regular season and Region XI Championship," said Dee Brown, Iowa Central's Director of Track and Field. "Especially this year with so many changes and adjustments being made constantly.

"I commend him for how he handled it and communicated those items to our athletes."

Jaheem Hayles and Hannah Connell were both finalists for the top men's and women's awards, finishing second to Jackson Burnett of Indian Hills and Nickisha Pryce from Iowa Western. Douglas Marshall of Iowa Western was voted top women's coach.

"Jaheem and Hannah work hard every day at practice and have trusted their event coach along the way, so it is great to see them being recognized as top contenders for ICCAC athlete of the year awards," Burkholder said. "It's always a team effort to receive this award. I'm proud of the work our men and women have put in throughout the indoor season, and the efforts our staff puts in every week at practices and meetings with students to ensure we can be successful."

The Triton track staff includes Brown, Burkholder, Justin Anderson, Nick Ekel and Jonathan Alexis.

All-region status goes to the Top-3 finishers in each event from the Region XI Championships.
