IOWA CITY – The Iowa Central Track and Field Teams opened their 2023 season at the University of Iowa's Hawkeye Invitational

Leading the way for the Triton Men with top 10 all-time performances were Waukeem Walters, finishing in eighth place in the long jump and Kamijah Carter taking 10th place in the 60 meter hurdles.

Qualifying for nationals for the Tritons were Zander Cobb in the 3Km, Kamijah Carter and Joel Nyatusah in the 60-meter hurdles, Waukeem Walters in the long jump and Roman Kuleshov in the triple jump.

"We had a very solid first meet at the Hawkeye Invitational this weekend," said Dee Brown, head track and field coach.  "We competed about 2/3 of our squad, so we are all anxious to see what the rest of them can do yet.  One thing that really stood out to our staff was the energy our team brought in support of their teammates.  The Tritons were loud and constantly cheering for our squad.  When you start with the right spark, it can really spread fast and lead to an enjoyable and successful season."
