The Iowa Central Men's Track and Field Team continued with their successful indoor season at two meets February 3-4.
The Triton squads split for the weekend, with a small group attending the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and a second group competed at the Ted Nelson Classic in Mankato.
At the Nelson Invitational, the Tritons saw three top-10 finishes in the men's 60-meter dash with Darrell Woodson finishing in fourth place, Marreion Marks finishing sixth and Kumunule Gbaley finishing in eighth place. Gbaley, Marks and Woodson also placed in the top-10 in the 200-meter dash- taking third, seventh and ninth places respectively. Caleb Crystal finished in ninth place in the men's 800-meter finals, Trae Corby finished sixth in the 1000-meter run and Jadon Boots finished in seventh place in the mile run.
Three Tritons claimed spots in the top-10 in the men's 5000-meter run at the Nelson Invitational with Marco Lopez taking second, Ander Julian taking fourth and Isaiah Nebbe finishing in fifth. In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Terry McNeill Jr. and Camron Ventura finished sixth and eighth. John Young finished seventh in the shot put and the Tritons' 4x400 meter relay team finished fourth.
Corby and Joseph Asahi Wright each recorded national qualifying times in the 1000-meter run.
Overall, Iowa Central finished second in men's team standings at Mankato.
At the Sevigne Husker Invitational, Joel Nyatusah, finished seventh in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Tafari Bishop took fourth and Jakob Sobura-Durma took seventh in the 400-meter run. Three Tritons finished in the top-10 in the men's 200 meters with Sobura-Durma taking fifth place, Willy Mabena eighth place and Zion Campbell receiving ninth place. In the 600-meter run, Yared Kidane finished second and Bishop came in seventh. Waukeem Walters was the champion in the men's long jump and triple jump and Roman Kuleshov received fifth place in the long jump.
Bishop qualified for nationals in the 400 at Nebraska and Kidane qualified in the 600. The Men's 4x400 team of Kidane, Campbell, Bishop and Sobura-Durma finished sixth overall with a national qualifying time of 3:17.46 .
"We split up this weekend to two different locations and checked a lot of items off our list," said Dee Brown, head track and field coach for the Tritons. "We gained some more national qualifiers and more importantly we significantly improved some marks for nationals. We saw lots more personal bests over the weekend as well as some place winners at both meets."
Next week, The Tritons travel back to South Dakota State University for the last regular season meet of the indoor season before heading into the championship part of the year.
