The Iowa Central Men's Track Team traveled to Emporia, Kansas to participate in the Emporia State University Midwest Classic on Sunday April 23.
Top-10 finishers for the Tritons included D'Quan Williams, 100-Meter Dash, third place; and Marreion Marks, 100-Meter Dash, sixth place. Ayomide Oyetunji was the champion in the 200-Meter dash followed by Willy Mabena in fourth place, D'Quan Williams in seventh place and Marreion Marks in eighth place. In the 400-Meter Dash, Tafari Bishop took fourth place. Jadon boots finished 10th in the 800-Meter Run and Joseph Asahi Wright finished 10th in the 1500-Meter Run. Isaiah Nebbe finished fourth place in the 10,000-Meter Run and Kamijah Carter took second in the 110-Meter Hurdles. In the 400-Meter Hurdles, Tafari Bishop finished third and Carter eighth. Canyon Jones finished 10th in the Men's Pole Vault and Myki Kennedy finished third in the Long Jump followed by teammates Aries Scott in fourth place and Shukuru Samson in eighth place. Tymer McKever received fifth place in the Triple Jump.
The Men's 4x100-Meter Relay team of Marreion Marks, Kumunule Gbaley, Willy Mabena and Ayomide Oyetunji finished in second place.
National Qualifiers for Iowa Central were: Joseph Asahi Wright, 1500-Meter Run; Baylor Bergren, 1500-Meter Run; Ayomide Oyetunji, 200-Meter Dash; and Tafari Bishop, 400-Meter Dash.
The Tritons finished third in the team standings.
"We were fortunate to end up in Emporia, Kansas on a Sunday with gorgeous weather," said Head Coach Dee Brown. "This was definitely our best 'team performance' of the season thus far with many personal records across all event groups. This is the perfect time of year to see these gains. We have one more regular season meet before we head into our championship part of our season."
