Record Breaking Performances Lead to Athlete of the Week Honors
Said Rifi Loutfi, Taha Ouchene, Saad Rifi Loutfi, Soufyane Laaziz – Iowa Central – Sophomores – Distance Medley Relay
Iowa Central's Distance Medley relay team posted the top mark of the 2026 Indoor season this past week. Comprised of Said Rifi Loutfi, Taha Ouchene, Saad Rifi Loutfi and Soufyane Laaziz, the Tritons combined for a time of 9:52.26 to win the Mark Schuck Open & Multi by a full second. Their time is more than 14 seconds faster than any other NJCAA DMR mark this season and would have ranked top five nationally last year.
Akram Mouaki – Iowa Central – Freshman – Shot Put
Iowa Central freshman thrower Akram Mouaki was stellar at the Mark Schuck Open & Multi, placing third in the shot put while setting a personal record. His throw of 17.72 meters leads the NJCAA this season and trailed only two NCAA Division II athletes from Minnesota State. Mouaki's mark ranks third in Iowa Central history, sits among the top 25 all time in the NJCAA and set an Algerian national record that had stood since 1977.
