Jim Drews Invitational Results
Ettrick, Wis. - The Iowa Central Community College men's cross country team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll, placed first at the 37th running of the Jim Drews Invitational Saturday at Ettrick Golf Club. The Tritons finished with 25 team points while host Wisconsin-La Crosse took second with 35 points and St. Olaf College, Minn. placed third with 169 points.
Ranked 4th in the NJCAA, Paradise Valley Community College, Ariz. was fourth (188 points), followed by Nebraska Wesleyan University (192 points), Cornell College, Iowa (215), the University of St. Thomas, Minn. (220), the Minnesota Running Club (180), Luther College, Iowa (262), and St. John's University, Minn. (263) to round out the top-10. A total of 21 teams competed.
Karim Achengli once again led the Tritons with his first place finish Saturday, running the 8,000-meter course in 24:36. Ezekiel Kipchirchir was second with a time of 24:45, and Jhordan Ccope rounded out the top three with a time of 24:58. Other Triton finishers were Innocent Murwanashyaka in 8th place with a time of 25:27, Gemechu Meskele in 11th place with a time of 25:35, Joshua Jacques in 15th place with a time of 25:40, and Mark Whalen in 47th place with a time of 26:23.
"We came prepared to run today despite the cold, rain and mud. The majority of our team ran their personal best times and I am very proud of their energy and effort," said Coach Dee Brown.
The Tritons return to action Sunday, October 29th at the Region XI Championships in Fort Dodge.
