Triton Softball Wins Two Over Highland

Triton Softball wins pair against Highland Saturday

The Iowa Central Triton Softball team grabbed a pair of victories Saturday afternoon in their 2023 home opener at Harlan Rogers Park against Highland of Kansas.

The Tritons, (14-12-1 overall, 4-0 ICCAC) won the first game of the day 8-3.

In game two, the Scotties went up 1-0 in the first inning with the bases loaded. A strong catch by infielder Chloe Mickelson ended the inning for the Scotties with an out on Highland's Rylie Harwood.

In the bottom of the first, lead-off hitter Riley Gilroy hit a single, caught on first for an out for the Tritons.  A triple by sophomore Amber McKinney sent Olivia Harmon home for the Tritons followed by a run by Myra Megli. The Tritons had two runs and three hits in the first. The Tritons had five hits and no runs in a scoreless second inning for both Iowa Central and Highland.

Highland sophomore Celeste Smith hit a home run in for the Scotties' single score in the third.  A Triton double play finished the inning for Highland. Morgan Weeks' base hit brought the Triton lead to 3-2 going into the fourth inning.  The Tritons had three straight outs in three at-bats in a quick fourth with no runs for either team. A base hit by McKinney brought Harmon in for a single Triton run in the fifth brining the score to 4-2. The Tritons had one hit and no runs in the sixth with a final score of 4-2.

The Triton Softball Team will be back in action Sunday afternoon, March 16 at 1 and 3 p.m. for a second doubleheader with the Scotties.
