WEBSTER CITY - Taylor McKinney has been on the big stage for several years now as a multi-sport standout at Webster City.
Now, as she prepares to help the Iowa Central women's basketball team compete at the upcoming NJCAA Div. II National Tournament, McKinney will appear on the big screen.
McKinney was cast as a basketball player in the film "New Providence," which will air at the Webster Theater beginning Friday. She is one of the New Providence players in a story that tells the tale of Jimmy Voss, a New York sports writer who comes to Iowa to cover the final season of six-on-six girls basketball in 1993.
While competing for the Lynx, McKinney auditioned for a role in the film in 2019. The film is also scheduled to be shown in Humboldt at the Humota Theater.
In 2015, McKinney made ESPN after hitting a game-winning shot as a seventh-grader for Webster City.
New Providence features Kurt Oberhaus as Voss and Ava Hawthorne as Laney Mitchell, one of the featured players. Hawthorne is a senior at Gilbert High School who has committed to Drake University.
