The Iowa Central Triton Women couldn't be stopped on their home court Wednesday in Hodges Fieldhouse, cruising to a 98-34 victory over Marshalltown Community College.
The Tritons (13-9 overall 6-5 ICCAC) wasted no time getting on the board with 2 points by Emily Theiss and a 3-pointer by Freshman Aleaha Pommer within the first 30 seconds of tip-off. Godfrey shot a 3 and Tessa Grooms brought in a rebound to take the Tritons up 13-0 within the first two minutes of the game.
The Tritons continued strong play offensively and defensively, holding the Tigers to 9 points in the first quarter; leading 27-9 at the end of the first.
Iowa Central continued to outshoot the Tigers, taking a 53-18 lead at the half and outscored Marshalltown 16-7 in the third.
The Tritons were led by Freshman Kaitlyn Tendal with 21 points, Maggie Godfrey with 16 points, Aleaha Pommer and Emma Scurek each had 14 while Tessa Grooms added 10.
"Tonight was a strong team win for our women's program," said Head Coach Sabah Dickerson. "Maggie Godfrey recorded her first collegiate double-double and we had four other Tritons reach double figures - that's the Iowa Central way. The women worked hard to play consistently from quarter to quarter. We were successful in winning the rebounding margin, minimizing our team turnovers, and attacked Marshalltown from the opening tip. I am looking forward to how we use this momentum forward as we prep for Saturday's contest versus the DMACC Bears."
