Wright breaks school mark at nationals

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Fast swims continued for Iowa Central here Friday on day three of the NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Lily Wright advanced to the 100 individual medley finals with a new school record time of 59.56. She was the second-fastest swimmer in prelims and will compete for the title later tonight.

The previous best mark for a Triton in the event was 1:00.50. 

Magali Mouton, already a national champion, clocked the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke prelims at 1:05.83. Iowa Central had four others advance to finals with Saige Knight in the 200 butterfly, Shannon Murphy and Anna Ridnour in the 100 breaststroke, and Emily Small in the 100 backstroke.

On the men's side, Kyle McKenzie turned in the third-quickest prelim swim in the 100 breaststroke, as did Johnathon Turner in the 100 individual medley.

Tjeerd Van Stein moved into the 100 backstroke finals with Andrew Iverson (500 free), Spencer Ehrenhard (100 individual medley), Gerard Ijspeert (500 free), Drew Giles (100 breaststroke), Javier Santiago (200 butterfly), Dylan Jones (100 breaststroke) and Brady Ferguson (500 free) joining them.

The next session of swimming begins at 4:30 p.m. and will stream live on NJCAA.org/network
