The Iowa Central Track & Field team headed over to Brookings, South Dakota this weekend to take part in two meets hosted by the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits. On Friday night, the Triton distance runners took part in the SDSU DII Invite to compete in the 3K and 5K races. 8 Triton women competed in the 5K race, with all 8 racers placing in the top 16. The Tritons finished 1-2-3 as Adva Cohen came in 1st at 16:43.76, Winrose Chesang 2nd at 17:51.71, and Marion Bartilol 3rd at 18:14.91. Marta Lukijaniuk rounded out the top 5 at 18:15.31.
The Triton men also performed well with Alex Sanford placing 5th in the 3K with a time of 8:59.09, Jhordan Ccope Tapara winning the 5K in 14:48.82, and Ezekiel Kipchirchir coming in 4th in the 5K with a time of 15:07.64.
On Saturday, the rest of the Tritons joined in for the Jim Emmerich Invite. The Triton women placed 5th and the Triton men placed 7th in nearly all NCAA D1 competition. Top performers for the Tritons:
-Nelda Huggins- 1st place in the 60 meter dash (7.50)
-Adva Cohen- 1st place in the 1 mile run (4.49.57)
-Agnes Mansaray- 2nd place in the 800 meter run (2:12.74)
-Michelle Tomlin- 4th place in the weight throw (18.07m/59-03.5ft)
-Malik Beverly- 1st place in the 60 meter hurdles (7.85)
-Ndiaga Seck- 3rd place in the 600 meter run (1:19.75)
-Bryant Brown- 4th place in the 60 meter dash (6.87)
-Phemelo Matlhabe- 4th place in the 200 meter dash (21.95)
-Phemelo Matlhabe- 5th place in the 60 meter dash (6.91)
-Vincent Notz- 5th place in the 400 meter dash (48.8)
Other noteable performances from this weekend:
-Adva Cohen broke the school record in the 1 mile run and nearly missed the 5K record, missing it by 1 second. Cohen's 5K time was a new Israeli U23 National Record, a facility record, and a meet record. Cohen also broke the meet and facility record in the 1 mile run.
-Malik Beverly broke the meet record in 60 meter high hurdles.
-Nelda Huggins broke the meet record in the 60 meter dash.
