The Triton Track and Field team headed to Brookings, South Dakota last week, to take part in two meets at South Dakota State University. Friday night the distance runner took place in the SDSU DII Invitational. Three women and three men qualified for the National meet in the 5000 meter run. National qualifying runners were:
Women 5000 Meter Run
1st place- Uwajeneza, Florance 17:57.54(11th best in school history)
2nd place- Busienei, Lilian 17:58.46 (12th best in school history)
3rd place- Chesang, Winrose 18:12.59
Men 5000 Meter Run
1st place- Yohannes, Awet 14:55.46 (9th best in school history)
2nd place- Pendic, Milos 14:56.54 (10th best in school history)
6th place- Murwanashyaka, Innocent 15:18.21
"For many of these athletes it was their first 5k on an indoor track. They did a great job tonight with a great display of competitiveness," said head coach Dee Brown.
