The Iowa Central Volleyball team opened up conference play tonight with a match at Iowa Lakes CC. The Lakers return 2016 freshman of the year RaeAhna Harmon. Partnered with their back to school bash, Iowa Lakes had an impressive crowd and started the game with a really high level of energy. The Tritons struggled to consistently match that energy, and didn't take advantage of when Harmon was in the backrow, losing set 1 23-25. The Tritons quickly bounced back, easily winning set 2, 25-11.
The 3rd set would be much like the first, with both teams playing great defense, and extending the rallies for some great back and forth volleyball. The Tritons really stepped up their blocking game, slowing down the Lakers. Lexi Green led the block with an impressive 10 blocks, followed by Gabby Sullivan with 4 and Kayla Faldet with 3. The Tritons won set 3 27-25.
The offense would finally come alive for the Tritons in set 4. Gabby Sullivan had 9 of her 21 kills in set four. Lexi Green and Kayla Faldet also added 8 kills of their own for the match. Abby Lohrmann had 41 assists in the win. Michele O'Haver led the defensive front, with 26 digs, Liza Hatcher added 14, and Emily Nelson added 13. The Tritons finished the match with a 25-21 set 4 win, winning the match 3-1.
The Tritons open up at home this Friday, with matches at 3pm vs. Western Technical College and 6:30pm vs. Briar Cliff JV.
