The Tritons traveled to Kansas City, Kansas this weekend for the Blue Devil Invitational, where they would face a tough foursome of opponents, including two top 11 ranked teams in #5 Coffeyville and #11 Cowley. First up for the Tritons was #5 Coffeyville. Coffeyville, who has won their last 19 matches, would prove to be the biggest offensive threat the Tritons have faced. The Tritons came out with great energy, winning the opening set 25-20. Coffeyville would quickly regroup, winning the next three sets 25-18, 25-12, 25-20. The Tritons, ranked #19 in last week's National Poll, were led by Gabby Sullivan's 17 kills, followed by Libby Zorn's 11. Zorn was the most efficient Triton, hitting at a .296 clip. Abby Lohrmann dished out 41 assists, while Michele O'Haver had 3 aces. Gabby Sullivan led the defensive effort with 17 digs, O'Haver and Liza Hatcher added 16, while Lexi Green led the blockers with 3.
Next up on Friday afternoon was the host team, KCKCC. KCKCC, coming in with 5 losses, had only lost to teams that have been ranked or receiving votes. The match was a back and forth battle, with the Tritons winning the close sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23. Gabby Sullivan was once again the offensive leader with 20 kills, while Hannah Murray chipped in 11. Asarar Gony was the most efficient attacker, swinging at a .462 clip with 6 kills. Abby Lohrmann had 37 assists as well as 2 aces. Kryssie Okinaka led the defenders with a season high 21 digs, while Michele O'Haver and Gabby Sullivan chipped in 15 digs apiece. Lexi Green was once again the block leader with 5.
First up for the Tritons Saturday morning was MCC-Longview. Longview started the match out strong, winning set 1 21-25. The Tritons would regroup to win the next three sets 25-14, 25-23, 25-19. Gabby Sullivan and Libby Zorn were once again the offensive leaders with 25 and 12 kills respectively. Zorn led the Tritons with an impressive .545 hitting efficiency. Abby Lohrmann had 48 assists and led the team to a .299 hitting efficiency. The Tritons won the serve and pass battle, passing at a 2.25 clip and reeling off 8 aces (Lohrmann, Sullivan, and Liza Hatcher all with 2). Michele O'Haver had a solid defensive game with 28 digs. Gabby Sullivan chipped in 15 digs, while Abby Lohrmann and Kryssie Okinaka added 12. Sullivan led the blockers with 6 while Lexi Green chipped in 5.
Last match for the Tritons was against #11 Cowley. This was the first of three match-ups for the Tritons and the Tigers. The match was a great battle, lasting nearly 2.5 hours, with many lead changes and ties. The teams would exchange sets, with Cowley winning the 1st and the 3rd sets both 25-20. The Tritons would take sets 2 and 4, winning 25-19 and 25-22. Cowley jumped off to an early lead in set 5 and never looked back, winning 15-8. Stat leaders for the Tritons were Gabby Sullivan with 22 kills, 19 digs, and 2 blocks. Abby Lohrmann had 39 assists, 1 block, and 10 digs. Libby Zorn had 13 kills on a .321 clip, 1 dig and 3 blocks. Emily Nelson led the servers with 4 aces, Liza Hatcher added 3 aces, Kryssie Okinaka had 17 digs, while Michele O'Haver and Hannah Murray added 15. Lexi Green was once again the Triton block leader with 6 blocks. Green had 19 blocks for the weekend.
The Tritons are now 17-4 (3-0 ICCAC) on the season. Next up for the Tritons is a conference match at Northeast NE on Wednesday at 7pm.
