Danielle Coronado experienced plenty of memorable moments during her playing career with Iowa Central volleyball.
On Wednesday night, Coronado made her return to Hodges Fieldhouse as an assistant coach with Southeastern. The 14th-ranked Tritons earned a four-set victory in ICCAC play.
During her time in a Triton uniform, Coronado earned honorable mention all-ICCAC status twice and was also named second team all-Region XI and picked up second team all-academic region status.
"It felt great to be able to return to Hodges Fieldhouse," Coronado said. "Iowa Central truly is home to me and once I pulled in, all the memories came flooding back to me. Even though we lost, I still thought both teams played with high energy and intensity."
Coronado reflected on the opposing coach in this match, her former leader, Sara Horn.
"Iowa Central is a great team and is led by an amazing coach and my mentor, Sara Horn," Coronado said. "She has taught me everything I know and if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be where I am today. She is like family to me and has always been there and I still go do her for coaching advice and life advice, as well."
Before she joined Michelle Glass' staff at Southeastern, Coronado had experience coaching at the club level.
"It is so different being on the other side of the fence in regards to being a player and a coach," Coronado said. "I love it and wouldn't change it for the world because I'm living out my dream right now. But being an athlete, you don't realize how much goes into the behind the scenes part. I've learned so much under Coach Glass and I'm beyond grateful that she believed in me and gave me such an amazing opportunity.
"I wouldn't want to be doing anything else other than giving back and coaching. I have such a love and passion for this game that will honestly never die from within me."
Coronado continued her career at Ottawa University before completing her degree at Briar Cliff.
