Gabby Sullivan left an incredible imprint on the Iowa Central volleyball program as a player.
Now, she'll look to do the same in a different position.
Sullivan will return to the Tritons as an assistant coach on Sara Horn's staff.
"Having Gabby come back to coach at Iowa Central is huge," Horn said. "Gabby was of course one of the best players to ever play at Iowa Central, but more than that, she was fully committed to this program, bought into what we were teaching and helped elevate those around her so we could reach our goals."
Sullivan spent two seasons playing for Horn and the Tritons, leading them to the NJCAA Div. II National Tournament and a 10th place finish. She was named AVCA first team All-American, becoming the first Iowa Central player to ever receive the honor.
"A slogan ICCC uses a lot is 'Once a Triton, always a Triton' and that's exactly how I feel," Sullivan said. "Allen, Nebraska will always be home to me, but this definitely feels like one of those 'coming home' moments. I've always hoped I'd get the chance to come back, and the timing was pretty perfect this time around.
"This was something I've dreamed of since I left back in May of 2018. I am super excited to be back on campus and to once again be a part of the Triton family."
A three-sport standout at Allen High School in Nebraska, Sullivan continued her career at Wayne State College. She came to Iowa Central as an athletic training major, but admits that changed thanks to Horn.
"After just two short seasons playing under Coach Horn, I left knowing I wanted to be a coach," Sullivan said. "She has impacted my life in so many ways as a volleyball player, a person and now a volleyball coach. I am so excited to get to learn even more from her as I start my coaching journey."
"Gabby is one of the best relaters that I've coached," Horn said. "I'm really excited to see how that transfers to recruiting and coaching players."
Iowa Central has won back-to-back ICCAC regular season titles, winning 33 matches this past season.
