Sweep streak reaches eight for Tritons

BOONE - The top-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team won their seventh and eighth consecutive matches by sweeps here Friday at the Des Moines Area Tournament.

The Tritons took care of Hawkeye and Coffeyville, improving to 26-0 on the year.

Katilyn Steffes had 16 kills and Angel Baylark seven in the win over the RedTails, ICCAC rivals of Iowa Central's. Brooke Dobson added five kills, Haley Alharithy five and Jori Hajek four.

Baylyn Johnson had 21 digs, Hajek 11 and Alesha Johnson 33 assists. Baylark and Steffes each had two block assists.

"We played really well against Hawkeye," Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. "We had a different lineup this time around with Katilyn back and they also started a different lineup, so it felt quite a bit different than the last time we played them. Katilyn played really well offensively and our serving really got them out of system, which slowed their offense down.

"It was a great way to start this four-match tournament off."

In the win over Coffeyville, Baylark had nine kills and three block assists, Alharithy had seven kills and Hajek four. Johnson recorded 22 assists.

"Against Coffeyville, we started extremely slow," Horn said. "We used a different lineup, so I think it took too long to get into a rhythm. Luckily, Natalia (Kellerman) went on a really long run for us in set one and brought us back from a really large deficit.

"We picked it up in sets two and three and were able to get some new people on the floor."

Iowa Central faces Heartland at noon and DMACC at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
