A Sweep of Iowa Lakes on Sophomore Night

Sophomore Nights are always filled with bittersweet moments and it was no different for Triton Volleyball on Wednesday. "Tonight was Sophomore Night, so it was great to celebrate our 11 sophomores and play a really solid match with all 11 sophomores contributing on the floor. This group has been all business this year and has made our jobs as coaches super easy. They work hard on the court and they do what they should do off the court and in the classroom." reflected Triton Head Coach, Sara Horn, after the Tritons closed conference play with a sweep of Iowa Lakes. 

Emily Goodner lead the way for the Tritons with 11 kills and 12 digs. Araya Garrison had 11 kills with Dani Anela Kapu and Olivia Benson each adding 18 and 11 assists in the 25-9, 25-12, 25-16 victory. As a team, the Tritons recorded 42 kills, 12 blocks, and six aces.

Sophomores honored were Olivia Benson, Matea Cunningham, Araya Garrison, Emily Goodner, Natalie Hagadon, Dani Anela Kapu, Brooke Lensing, Camryn Stevens, Olivia Sturgis, Tionn Wise, and Rachel Zanter. This group of Tritons are 61-13 overall and 26-4 on their home floor in Hodges Fieldhouse with their only home loss this season coming to #1 ranked Cowley County.

Wednesday night's win secured the Triton's second place finish in the ICCAC Conference as they prepare for next week's Region 11 Tournament. "As we're approaching post season play, it's great to see this group really clicking and peaking at the right time. As a team we hit nearly .500, which is an unbelievable hitting percentage for a whole team.  We're proud of these girls for working hard all season and excited to see how this post season goes." added Horn.

Following Saturday's regular season finale vs. Iowa Western, the Tritons begin Region 11 Tournament play with a quarterfinal matchup vs. Western Iowa Tech on Wednesday, November 6th in Hodges with semifinal and finals play continuing on Saturday and Sunday at the highest remaining seed.
