Sturgis Named Outstanding Triton Female Athlete of the Year

Olivia Sturgis has been named Iowa Central's Outstanding Triton Female Athlete of the Year. Olivia was a member of the Triton Volleyball team, a two-year team captain, and was named 3rd Team All-American, 1st Team All-Region, ICCAC Player of the Week (x2), 1st Team Academic All-Region, and Academic All-American following her sophomore year. She was an integral part in leading the Tritons to a 30-9 record and a fifth consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearance.

"Olivia was a great leader for us these past two years both on the court, off the court, and in the classroom," said Triton Head Coach, Sara Horn. "She epitomizes leading by example and would never ask her teammates do something she didn't already do at a high level. It's been great to see her be rewarded for her work, she is absolutely deserving of all of the awards she has received."

Off the court, her leadership continued as she organized and led her team's elementary school reading initiative and contributed to numerous youth volleyball camps on campus. Sturgis will be attending D2 Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN in the fall to continue her volleyball and academic career.

"We started working with Olivia her freshman year of high school at summer camps. It's such a rewarding thing to work with area athletes and to see them grow over the course of so many years," said Horn. "To have a six-year relationship with Olivia and to see how much she has grown as a person, player, and student is one of the best parts of being a community college coach.  We look forward to continuing to follow her career and see her future successes."
