IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa Central cross country team headed over to the University of Iowa for a Friday afternoon race at the Hawkeye Invitational. Top runners for the Triton Women were Adva Cohen with a 2nd place finishing time of 13:50.1, Agnes Mansaray (14:29.8) finishing 13th, Marion Bartilol (14:42.9) finishing 19th, Abeba Sullivan (14:59.7) finishing 25th, and Marta Lukijaniuk (15:20.9) finishing 32nd. Cohen, Mansaray, Bartilol, and Sullivan all broke the previous school record for the 4,000 meters.
The Triton Men were led by Karim Achengli's 2nd place finishing time of 17:50.1, Jhordan Ccope (17:51.4) finishing 5th, Ezekiel Kipchirchir (17:56.2) finishing 8th, Innocent Murwanashyaka (18:42.6) finishing 25th, and Mark Whalen(19:07.1) finishing 36th. Achengli, Ccope, Kipchirchir, and Murwanashyaka all broke the previous school record for the 6,000 meters.
The 2017 Hawkeye Invitational was scored as individual dual meets. The Iowa Central women won their duals against Drake University (19-40) and Illinois State (22-25), despite missing a key runner in Aaliyah Regg Wajid. The Triton Men had dual victories over Creighton (15-45), Drake (19-39), Illinois State (19-37), Northern Iowa (20-35), and the host Hawkeyes (26-31).
