EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Iowa Central cross country teams finished the 37th annual Michigan State Spartan Invitational by winning both the Men's and Women's Junior College Divisions on Friday afternoon at Forest Akers East Golf Course.  The Men and Women both finished with impressive scores as the Men finished with a score of 19, ahead of 2nd place Lansing's 49 points, while the Women finished with a near perfect score of 16, dominating 2nd place and last year's National Champion Lansing's 51 points.

The Triton men had many impressive individual finishes with Karim Achengli finishing 1st in a race that included 13 NCAA D1 and D2 teams.  Achengli's time of 24:31.7 was 17 seconds faster than Michigan State's senior runner, Max Benoit, who came in 2nd.  Jhordan Ccope (25:05.6) was the next fastest Triton as he finished the overall race in 4th place while also placing 2nd in the junior college division.  Innocent Murwanashyaka (25:59.2) finished in 23rd overall and 3rd in the junior college division.  Mark Whalen (26:45.6) finished 57th overall and 6th in the junior college division.  Josh Jacques (26:47.4) finished 60th overall and 7th in the junior college division, and Abdinasir Abdi (27:03.1) finished 67th overall and 8th in the junior college division.

The Triton women had a dominating race in the junior college division, with the Tritons finishing in the 1-4, 6, 7, and 9th spot.    Adva Cohen was once again the leader for the Tritons.  Cohen, who had her shoe stepped on early in the race, ran the majority of the race with one shoe while carrying her misplaced shoe in her other hand.  Despite this, Cohen was still able to finish the race in the 11th spot overall while finishing first among junior college competitors with a time of 22:02.8.  Agnes Mansaray (22:41.4) finished 32nd overall while coming in 2nd in the junior college division.  Marion Bartilol (23:09.6) finished 47th overall and 3rd in the junior college division.  Abeba Sullivan (23:18.9) finished 50th overall and 4th in the junior college division.  Aaliyah Regg Wajid (23:40.2) finished 60th overall and 6th in the junior college division.  Marta Lukijaniuk (23:50.6) finished 63th overall and 7th in the junior college division, and Katy Pfile (24:21.8) finished 84th overall and 9th in the junior college division.

The Tritons return to action Saturday, September 30th as they head to the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
