Coach Myers enters his sixth season at Iowa Central. Myers has wasted little time in turning Iowa Central’s track and field program into one of the elite programs in the nation. Immediately, he brought his winning ways to Iowa Central during his first season with an Indoor National Championship in women’s indoor track and field along with a second place finish for the men’s team in 2010 and hasn’t looked back.

Since then, the women’s team have won Indoor titles in 2012 and 2014, with runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2013; while the men were crowned Indoor National Champions in 2011, 2012 and 2014 with a runner-up finish in 2013. At the NJCAA Outdoor Championships, the women claimed the first ever NJCAA team title as they dethroned South Plains in 2013. The women also finished second in 2014 and third in 2011 and 2012. The men have claimed runner-up finishes at the Outdoor Championships in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

Last season, Iowa Central produced ten individual national champions at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships, 22 All-Americans and set six school records. Elizabeth Dadzie was named Outstanding Women’s Field Athlete of the Year and Xavier McAllister was named Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Year. At Indoor Nationals, Iowa Central had 11 individual national champions, 21 All-Americans and set three school records. Myers was named the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year and Tahir Chakisso was named Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Year after winning four individual national titles.

Iowa Central has also dominated Region XI under Myers. The women have claimed five indoor team titles and four outdoor team titles since 2010. The men have won five Indoor and five Outdoor team titles. In 2012, Iowa Central male track and field athlete Stanley Kebenei was named the NJCAA Athlete of the Year for his stellar career that included nine individual national titles and three team national championships.

Myers’ coaching experience dates back to 1979 as he was a coach at Lansing Community College from 1979-2000. After a successful tenure at Lansing that saw him win 10 total NJCAA Cross Country National Titles, six in men’s four in women’s, along with 22 region coach of the year and 11 National Coach of the Year awards. He moved on to State University of New York Plattsburgh from 2000-2001. From there he moved to Vincennes University where he served as the Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach in addition to the Athletic Director from 2001-2005. His next move was to Rend Lake College where he spent three seasons, 2006-2009. Myers started the first women’s track & field and cross country program for the college. It didn’t take long for him to taste success as he won the NJCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field National Championship in his second season and was again named the National Coach of the Year.

His main area of focus is with the middle distance runners where he has coached many All-Americans, as well as vertical jumps, having coached seven of the last NJCAA high jump champions.
